A story of a girl with cerebral palsy which is , as defined by society abnormal or in simple terms physically disabled... who is trying to find herself... her choices, explore her feelings....What's wrong if these people fall in love with someone, what is so difficult for perfectly normal human beings with perfectly functioning body parts to love them back or you know , accept them as their life partners? Are they incapable of loving or being loved by someone apart from their family. Well in many cases ,families do abandon such kids and those who don't certainly feel at times it would have been better if they had no kids.Very lucky are those whose families love them like normal kids after all they are their own child!
I went out to watch this movie with another 2 friends of mine. As shown in the movie, Laila falls in love with the singer of her college band for which she wrote lyrics, the moment she expressed her love towards him, he was like half paralysed. Seriously??? What ?? Did she hit you on your balls? Well that's okay, he did not feel the same for her but behaving like -Dude...! are you insane? Look at yourself ... you need a freaking wheelchair to move around, like a robot.... but does that make her heartless or emotionless?
She had a kiss with the friend of hers who was also handicapped with his legs... he too needed a wheelchair to move around all the time.His feelings for her in the entire movie was uncertain but after they had the kiss according to him "Making normal people as in perfectly physically able people around you your friends does not prove you are normal too." So he basically wanted Laila to stick around with him all the time, but again for Laila he was just a friends.
Heartbroken,Laila moves to New york from Delhi and joins NYU on scholarship,where she accidentally meets this female activist, khanum who is again handicapped with her eyes, she is blind and cannot see but can certainly and does handle everything perfectly like a normal human being. Well , she is not straight. Spending some time together they fall in love with each other, on which my friend comments.... What the hell is wrong with the script ,such things and movies are spoiling our society...! "Dude, just because you are attracted towards females does not mean every man gets attracted towards female" is what I replied, so he pops up with this law of nature statement- yeah but that's against the law of nature. Really??? How many things according to you our culture and society do in the favour of nature...? They hardly give a damn, and when it comes to this particular thing every freaking human soul out there wants to lecture about LAW OF NATURE- in favour and against? Yeah many erotic scenes in the movie , unexpected but the motto of this movie was not to show sex stuff, it was solely to show the people out their with this mentality that physically challenged people are just burdens, that they are human souls.... they breath, they feel, they to have heart , they do have tear glands which fills in tears in their eyes when they are hurt. Stop hurting their feelings. If you cannot love them you have no right to hurt them either. As simple as that.
Well, later on these two break up because while Laila was in relationship with Khanum , she tried to explore herself and find what does she feel with men, she had sex with her helper, Lenard, who was appointed by her professor to help her finish her assignment. It was just a moment, it happened... He was helping her to pee!, the moment he touched her she felt the touch, it excited her, if she was a complete lesbian she would not have felt anything but she did and so they moved further and made out. At least she was clear about her feelings now. She was a bisexual- Is it that haunting word? She was happy with khanum , it was just that she did not want to keep any secrets from people she really cared for , and her mom, who has always been their for her at all times was on death bed. Khanum could not take it, of course this was like cheating on her when she was in relationship, may be Laila should not have got into relationship before finding out what she really felt like, as she was still exploring herself right...? Khanum flew back to New york. Laila missed them both, her mom and Khanum but then she found what she has always missed....!
The best part of the movie- she has a date in the end with herself....I know some of you might wonder what the hell..... haaaah neither a girl nor a guy could be with her, that she had to date herself....? You are missing on the most important message dear friends....."LOVE YOURSELF FIRST, ONLY THEN OTHERS WILL LOVE YOU, AND MOREOVER EVEN IF THEY DON'T YOU WILL NOT FEEL BAD OR BROKEN CZ YOU WILL NEVER BREAKUP WITH YOURSELF,OR BREAK YOUR OWN HEART....!"
I don't know , but I loved the script, the acting was amazing, everything about this movie, although I found many of them left the hall after the interval but again its their choice to watch it or not :-P, its solely an individuals choice what he or she wants.... society will not decide that for them, society is just another name for big mouths with no hearts,they love to gossip and hurt, Its you who decide you want to pay concentration on their gossips, be hurt or just be happy loving yourself or who so ever you want.
